Scooter Lift

Elderly, injured, and disabled individuals all around the world use mobility scooters to get around.  Mobility scooters are a convenient way for individuals to get out and run a simple errand.  A common question is how do you move the scooter when needed?  A scooter lift is a popular way to transport a scooter into many homes or vehicles.

Mobility scooters are often heavy and hard to move.  There are a small amount of scooter that are foldable.  Additional scooters may be able come apart in pieces; however, some of those pieces still may be too heavy for the standard individual to lift.  Scooter lifts come in various different sizes and styles, but they all make moving and transporting a scooter much easier. 

One of the most common forms of a scooter lift is one that has a platform style.  These lifts will work on any standard car, truck, SUV, or van.  This scooter lift will generally attach to the back end of the vehicle.  There is a platform that the scooter can drive up on and be lifted up and secured for travel.  This scooter lift is common among many scooter owners.  It is a nice, convenient, and safe way for scooters to be transported.  Platform scooter lifts can come with or without a mini fence around the platform.  This is usually just a precaution; however, many scooter lifts operate fine without one. 

Another style of a scooter lift available is a cross between a lift and a carrier.  This style lift is often used on the back of standard vehicles, including cars.  Generally scooters or electric wheelchairs need to be transported inside a van or in the back of a truck.  This type of scooter lift almost resembles a mini crane.  This lift is commonly used on power and manual wheelchairs, however, there are many scooter models that can be used.  This scooter lift will generally hook from the trunk of a vehicle and the arm can be used to lift the scooter up off the ground.  The arm will hold the scooter up, where it will be secured and ready for travel. 

There is a scooter lift similar to many electric wheelchair lifts.  This style lift is often used on full size vans, minivans, or even homes.  This lift is powered and will raise the whole scooter, and possibly the individual on it, into a large vehicle or a porch.  This lift is similar to a the platform lift mentioned above, but the lift is generally installed with a van and the lift can go underneath the vehicle or close up inside the passenger compartment. 

The decision to purchase a scooter lift can be a fairly expensive one, depending on the model selected; however, it is a wise investment.  A scooter lift is a great way to bring a scooter along on a vacation or small trip.
