Wheelchair Repair

Like many other items, a wheelchair runs the risk of being damaged or broken.  Wheelchair repair is often needed and there are a few different options when seeking to have your wheelchair repaired.

One of the most common type of wheelchair repair is self repair.  This is when an individual or someone that they know may try and repair the wheelchair without being paid for it.  If an individual is knowledgeable in wheelchair repair, this might be a great money saving option.  If wheelchair repair is unfamiliar there are ways to learn.  Instructional manuals, help guides, or even instructional videos may be purchased.  If learning about wheelchairs and their need for repair is an option, take it.  This knowledge may come in extremely handy later on.

Wheelchair repair parts and accessories can be purchased from a wide variety of locations.  Wheelchair parts can generally be purchased wherever wheelchairs are sold.  Medical stores, wheelchair supply stores, or online store are a few examples of where wheelchair repair parts may be found.  The cost of each repair part will depend on where the item was purchased from and the part.

If you are unable to repair your own wheelchair and do not know another individual who will do the repair for you, consider hiring someone else to do it.  There are wheelchair repair shops all over the country that specialize and are fully trained in wheelchair repair. While each wheelchair repair shop is different many will charge an hourly rate for labor.  In addition to the hourly labor charge, you may be required to pay for the repair parts.  Some wheelchair repair companies may even mark up the price of the replacement parts
needed.  For this reason it is highly recommend that you call around and ask for price quotes before taking your wheelchair to be repaired.

If you are unable to get your wheelchair to the repair shop on your own or with assistance from others, many repair shops may come and pick them up and return the chair when they are finished.  Depending on the type of wheelchair repair needed, some repairs may take a few hours or even days.  There are some wheelchair repair shops that will loan out replacement wheelchairs until yours is fully repaired.  If this option is not available, wheelchairs can be rented from wheelchair stores or even some traditional rental store locations.

If your wheelchair is in need of a repair, be sure to get it done as soon as possible.  Although wheelchair repair can be expensive, many repair shops may be willing to work with you and develop a payment plan.  Do not put your health at risk, have your damaged wheelchair repaired today.
